“Right up until the end, life is to be worn gloriously.”
Captain Christopher Pike, U.S.S. Enterprise
Let me start by admitting something obvious. I am on a journey.
It is not a straight line, and it definitely is not the kind of trip you can plan with a color-coded calendar. It is a journey full of imagination, surprise, love, laughter, and a remarkable amount of grace. That journey has carried me to where I am right now, which is a good place to be, and it keeps nudging me forward into whatever new thing God is dreaming up next.
So where does the journey have me today?
I am the Senior Pastor of Westwood Baptist Church in Cary, North Carolina.
I am married to my favorite human, and together we have two sons, one daughter, and two dogs. One is a Jack Russell terrier with the energy level of a small tornado. The other is a terrier pointer hound mix who is fun, loyal, and much easier to negotiate with.
I am a Christian shaped by the teachings of Jesus and the stubborn belief that loving my neighbor is not optional. I try hard to live that out in all the places I show up, even the grocery store line.
I earned a Bachelor of Arts in Religion and Philosophy from Campbell University in 2009 and a Master of Divinity from Campbell University Divinity School in 2013. In 2017 I started a Doctor of Ministry degree at the Baptist Theological Seminary at Richmond. When BTSR closed, I packed my theological suitcase, returned to Campbell, and graduated with my D.Min. in May 2020.
This blog is simply a place to write, reflect, offer encouragement, and keep track of what God is up to. Thank you for walking this stretch of the journey with me.
