Rest.

I’ve taken a little time away: from emails, from work, from the constant motion. In the quiet, I’ve remembered something I often forget: rest is more than a break. It is sacred. It is trust. It is resistance against the constant pull to busyness.

But I also know not everyone gets to take a vacation. Not everyone can step away. And yet, the invitation of Jesus isn’t limited to a beach, mountain, or even a colonial town.

One of my favorite reminders in Scripture comes from Jesus in Matthew 11:28: “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.”

That rest is available in the ordinary: in a deep breath, in a shared meal, in a quiet moment between chaos. It is not an escape from reality. It is a grounding in a deeper one.

Meanwhile, the world keeps spinning. The headlines stay heavy. War, injustice, and division continue. Our country is restless. Our spirits are tired. And still, Christ offers rest.

Not the kind that avoids the pain, but the kind that steadies us in the midst of it. Rest that reminds us we are not called to carry everything alone. Rest that roots our work in love instead of exhaustion.

So wherever you are: on a trip, in your kitchen, at your desk, may you find a moment of rest and hear the challenge to a deeper and more meaningful existence amid the noise.
